If  you practice with purpose and emotion, you will play with passion and confidence!!!

Plyometrics is a style of exercise training designed to:
1. Advance the functions of the nervous system.
2. Generate fast, powerful movements.
Allowing you to get the best out of your game!!!

Basically, a Plyometric Exercise is an Eccentric muscle contraction, quickly followed by a Concentric muscle contraction. For example: lengthning your  muscle as it´s contracted, is Eccentric…. then shortening your muscle as it´s contracted, is Concentric.

What Plyometric training does, is train your muscles at their weakest point…. This is fantastic for athletes, especially hockey players, who need to be prepared for anything that may come in a game situation. These exercises not only make you faster, stronger, and an all round better athlete…. they also play a major role in injury prevention.

My training program, that I would like to share with you in the up coming post`s, are full of great Plyometric exercises and exercise equipment. My training is mainly focused on  hockey players, but can also be used by many other athletes. All of the exercises will focus on the upper and lower body, core strenght, and stamina. (e.g. Bosu Ball, Plyo Box Combo System, Mini Hurdles, Ladder Drills, Medicine Ball, etc…). I will also show you a push-up bar workout, some core training exercises, and a couple of ways you can raise your Vo2 max (improve power at lactate threshold).

As time goes by, I will be adding many other on and off ice training exercises, that will help you reach your full potential as a hockey player… physically and mentally. Developing your skills on the ice is very important,  but only half the battle. The other half of your potential is locked away… and your “Character” is the key. Developing a strong mind set, a great work ethic, and a team minded mentality is in my opinion the most important lesson to be learnt… in hockey and in life.

Losers focus on what they are going through, while champions focus on what they are going to do!!!
